Attendees will come away from this presentation with an understanding of how artificial (AI) intelligence is being used to enhance education in motivational interviewing (MI), a person-centered counseling style that evidence shows can help patients recover from addiction. Key ethical and practical dilemmas will be highlighted, including the complexity of leveraging AI to teach a fundamentally humanistic approach to patient care grounded in empathy. Participants will have an opportunity to engage in a teaching demonstration using AI. Take-aways will include questions that clinicians and educators may do well to ask themselves when considering the use of AI in medical education more broadly.
